Coffee: Five Senses & Single Origin blends
Arriving at the seemingly residential location of 585 Canning Street Carlton North, it is hard to miss the line of patrons milling around outside Cafe Bu, a pit stop for great coffee and snacks for those in the area. The pastel green cafe is actually located on Pigdon Street and beach umbrellas signify a rooftop pit stop. Small but not ridiculous, the venue was cosy and charming. It’s an unique gem to this quiet suburban street; the perfect place for a pick-me-up for nearby neighbours and passers-by.
The upstairs balcony was simply gorgeous and provided much of the seating for the tiny venue. Much to our dismay, all the spots were taken. Luckily, we managed to secure a seat downstairs looking out onto the street. Mr LB ordered an Egg Up [$4.70] to share along with his long black. Miss SL had a double espresso to accompany the light snack. The egg was perfectly poached through and the tomatoes and pesto added a juicy element to the dish. This was complemented with the ham delicately wrap around the egg, adding an interestingly crispy texture.
Miss SL had a Single Origin from Ethiopia in a double espresso. The coffees were served with a chocolate coated coffee bean. The flavours were full bodied with a hint of nutmeg and a trailing yoghurt flavour.
Overall we found Cafe Bu to be chic with a focus on providing high quality coffee to the North Carlton area. The venue is trendy and relaxing whilst delivering targeted offerings to cater for those looking for a quick snack. A job well done to the team at Cafe Bu.
